FOI hard to get; newspaper association

The Canadian Newspaper Association did its annual survey of various government groups, particularly police, to see how forthcoming  they were in complying with provincial laws on releasing information to the public. The report cited “disturbing inconsistencies” between a variety of agencies on how they responded. Part of this reflects that FOI law varies from province to province, and the feds have their own version of it; partly it reflects differing corporate cultures; and partly it reflects balancing freedom of information with protection of privacy.
