Canwest asks CRTC for permission to meld tv, newspaper newsrooms

CRTC, as a condition to Canwest (and BellGlobeMedia)’s license to broadcast, put a caveat that the newsrooms of newspapers owned by the conglomerates be separate from the tv newsrooms, to ensure diversity of media voices. Now Canwest wants to get that caveat waived, presumably to “streamline” aka downsize its editorial costs. The union’s aren’t buying it though, and have some strong words for the attempt.
