A small experiment in the US, in which students were challenged with living without any electronic connection for a day shows that the Pavlovian world of new media is a fix young people can’t stand missing. No cells, PDAs, Ipods, computers, TV’s, even newspapers, left the students dazed and bewildered. A few managed such old tricks as reading books, or even going outside for a walk, but most of them wandered through the day like zombies. And these are the people I’m relying on to pay my pension?
