Murdoch versus Google

In a Mothra versus Godzilla battle, media magnate Rupert Murdoch is detaching his newspapers from Google, to stop the free searching of stories from his newspaper. The attempt is to make it harder for people to get “free” stories from his media empire, and drive them to subscribe. Interesting battle ahead; Murdoch doesn’t lose often and he has deep pockets.

Google to massively increase access to old newspaper stories

Google announced it wants to add billions of newspaper articles published over the past 244 to its online collection, a boon to historians and researchers. Many of them will have passed copyright restrictions, and those that still have copyright will probably co-operate with the online giant.
